Lomi-Lomi originally known as lomi ka’ ala hoku, “massage journey to the stars”, is an ancient Hawaiian Massage System. It has been passed down from master to student, from one generation to the next. Native Hawaiians believed that all nature is replete with the same energy or spirit which they called aloha ‘aina. This system of massage was kept secret from the West until the 1970’s.
Like the waves of the oceantide there are very tender and very deep feelings within the body. Lomi Lomi Nui is the wave which gently carries the body, turns it around itself, pleasantly presses it and caresses it again and again with long and harmonious strokes. This is possible through careful and conscious contact, a teamwork of giving and receiving, corresponding with the moment.
An unusual massage-technique
What’s special about Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Nui is that by using a lot of natural oil this massage remains in a constant flow. The Masseur is moving, nearly dancing around the massagetable. It’s such a wonderful feeling when the body is stroked and one has the feeling of being whole again. Often clients have the impression of being born again.
Of course, it is possible to work on deep tissue with this particular massage-technique and to discharge tensions. Especially around the shoulderblades and the neck it can be very pleasant to loosen painful blocks gently. Again and again the connection with the whole body, the whole person is established.
Lomi Lomi Nui combines the use of prayer (pule), breath (ha), and energy (mana) with a variety of massage strokes to release areas of congestion in the body.
The concepts of unconditional love, grace, beauty and spirituality are inherent in Lomi Lomi Nui.
